Kedai Makanan Nam Chun | Lucky Garden

If you don't already know, one of Sarawak's famous authentic dishes is Laksa. And, I am from Sarawak. Kuching, Sarawak to be exact. My love for laksa is, over the top. I have tried a couple of different Laksa here in West Malaysia (Yes, Laksa deserves a caps for the first letter). I have had penang laksa, asam laksa, curry laksa and some laksas that are not very laksa-like. But, I still think that Sarawak Laksa, is. the. best.

Anyway... I've tried Sarawak Laksa in west Malaysia once. And to me, it brought shame to our Sarawak Laksa. It was so bad I cannot even. But thank goodness they closed down after awhile.

Then I discovered Nam Chun, Lucky Garden in Bangsar. The photos in this blog post were taken on my second visit, which was many months ago. I am only writing this post now, several months later, just cause. *cough*procrastination*cough*

Not only that, prior to my first visit, I have already visited this place for the Laksa more than I can count. So, I can guarantee you, it is bomb. And is still, bomb.

If you ever wonder what Sarawak Laksa taste like, just come here. It is authentic and very, very, nice. Comparable to the good ones back in Sarawak. Yes, I admit, there are better ones in Kuching but this is very close. Close enough. I went with a dear friend of mine, who is also from Kuching. He too, approves.

I have brought a friend from Kuching who was here to visit, and he was surprised at how good it is too. I also brought my mom, aka the queen of laksa, too. And when I say queen of laksa I mean she is probably the biggest fan of Sarawak Laksa that if ever someone forbids her to eat laksa for the rest of her life, she will deem her like meaningless. She too, thought this was good. To her standards, this was only pretty good. Lol.

And, it is only RM7. Even in Sarawak we hardly get big prawns like that. I can't comment on the freshness of the prawns because I am allergic to seafood. And its Laksa. No one really cares about the prawns, do they? Okay, maybe just not me.

The only possible flaw about this laksa would be the belacan served on the side. It's not exactly what we would normally be served back home but it is still good. So my fellow Eastsiders here in west Malaysia, who loves laksa as much as I do, this is our saving grace.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the owners of the stalls were from Kuching. And they speak Sarawak Hokkien. Feels like home every time I'm there.

Pork noodles. Except I had pork beehoon soup.

You know that list that tells you the top 10 must try pork noodle soup places? Forget that. I've tried 3/10 and gave up. Not only the wait is super long, it doesn't taste good at all. Maybe it's not suitable for my east Malaysia palette. They're most just sweet and boring and the soups are mostly clear.

But this. This one right here. Is so good. Savoury, tasty and most of all the amount of pork meat and whatnot that they give. Just look at the picture You can hardly see the noodles from here. I've also ordered from them quite a number of times already. Only sometimes, they're not very consistent with the amount of salt. Even so, it's still good because the soup is not just plain and clear soup. It tastes like it's been boiled on the fire for hours. 10 thumbs up!
